Pocket Pandit™ is meant to be read at a glance in the morning by anyone, including people who use a screen reader, larger text, high contrast, or who prefer reduced motion. This page says what we do, what we know is not yet right, and how to reach us.
1. Standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA for the Site, and to follow Apple's and Google's accessibility guidelines in the App.
2. What the Site does
- Text and controls meet a 4.5:1 contrast ratio in both the dark and light themes; the theme follows your system setting and can be switched in the header.
- All functionality works with a keyboard. Focus is visible. A "Skip to content" link is the first focusable element.
- Live regions (the Choghadiya countdown) are marked so screen readers are not flooded with per-second updates; the current window is announced as a sentence instead.
- Devanagari text carries the correct
langattribute so it is pronounced correctly in हिन्दी and नेपाली. - Motion (the sky, orb, marquees, reveals) is disabled when your system requests reduced motion.
- Forms label every field, mark required fields, show inline errors in text, and do not rely on colour alone. Auspicious and inauspicious windows are distinguished by label as well as colour.
- Images of the app carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Text reflows to 320px wide and scales to 200% without loss of content.
3. What the App does
- Supports Dynamic Type / system font scaling.
- Elements are labelled for VoiceOver and TalkBack, including the live Choghadiya timer and the japa counter.
- Haptic feedback on the japa counter can be turned off.
- Colour-coded windows also carry a text label and an icon.
4. Known gaps
- Some Panchang terms are shown only in transliteration; a glossary with plain-language explanations is in progress.
- The lock-screen Live Activity mirrors what iOS provides and cannot be customised for contrast beyond system settings.
- Third-party components (payment sheets, advertising banners, map search) are governed by their providers' accessibility.
5. Feedback
If something is hard to use, tell us. Write to [email protected] with the device, operating system, assistive technology you use and what happened. A person reads every message and we aim to reply within two working days. Accessibility bugs are treated as defects, not feature requests.
6. Review
This statement is reviewed with each major release of the App and at least twice a year.
